I believe the issue of masking is highly debatable and divisive. Whether or not a child should be wearing a mask should be a decision that parents make, not the county health department or school board. I intend to write policy making masking optional on a permanent basis.
I believe classrooms should be a safe place to learn, free and void of any divisive political rhetoric and messaging. In fact, this is a Nebraska State Statute that in some cases, is being violated. Classrooms are for teaching and learning, not political activism.
I believe Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), including gender ideology, should be left to the parents and their children, not the classrooms.
Race Based Training
I believe race based training, in the form of CRT (Critical Race Theory) is discriminatory and divisive. CRT does not belong in our classrooms. It creates hatred and division on young impressionable minds. Our children deserve to be taught to treat EVERYONE with respect and dignity, regardless of race, and not be subjected to victim versus oppressor status. The civil rights act of 1964 cemented this, and must be upheld and followed by our educators.
I believe the United States of America is the greatest country in the world. Students should be taught basic civics, patriotism, and American exceptionalism. Every student should know, respect, and learn the history of our Veterans, the Constitution, American Flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the star spangled banner.
The parents and the Norris community deserve full transparency and accountability with respect to curriculum, training materials, classroom content, library materials, surveys, tests, and SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) content. The school board MUST hold administrators and staff accountable for violations of board policies and state statutes.
